Sellwood is a quiet residential neighborhood; very community oriented with an almost quaint small town atmosphere. This is a great family area where people hang out at the coffee shops on the weekend, and you’ll see couples pushing strollers and walking their dogs. The area was an independent city and early rival of Portland before it was annexed in 1893, and it has tried for more than a century to maintain its identity. Sellwood is best known for its Antique Row, along 13th Avenue, making it a hot-spot for week-end visitors looking for that one-of-a-kind deal. Although just 10 minutes from downtown, Sellwood-Moreland real estate has an old time charm and Antique Row reminds visitors it was once its own small town.
The Moreland neighborhood of Portland is divided into Eastmoreland and Westmoreland. Westmoreland is the Moreland of Sellwood-Moreland neighborhood, since that is how it is classified by the City of Portland. If you ask neighbors they’ll say that Eastmoreland is the kind of place where other people mow your lawn. In Westmoreland, they do their own.
