Alberta Arts District, Portland Real Estate
Alberta Street in Northeast Portland (zip code 97211), is one of those streets that has been transformed in the last ten years from ghetto and grungy artist’s enclave to a vibrant street full of popular cafes, bars, clothing stores, salons, and art galleries; now known as the Alberta Arts District. This is an extra-ordinarily lively neighborhood in the evenings which isn’t nearly as upscale, or expensive, or trendy as the Pearl or Hawthorne or the NW 23rd street area.
The area is hip, fun and quirky, but not completely gentrified like the Pearl. It is refreshing and well worth a visit. Weekends and the last Thursday of the month bring out the local artists to peddle their wares on the street. It's great for people watching and just plain fun time to check out – as long as you don’t mind crowds. The cafes and bars are mobbed and the galleries stay open late. As you stroll down the street watch for the murals covering otherwise bland concrete walls, and giving Alberta a colorful feel. There are no chain stores on Alberta, all the businesses are independent. No Starbucks, no Subway, no Safeway grocery store, etc.
